Baltimore residents might want to keep their umbrellas close at hand, as the city is in for a few more days of damp weather. The National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC details in their latest Area Forecast Discussion that a high-pressure system will bring drier conditions until Thursday, but another bout of rain is expected to follow, lasting through Saturday. Cooler temps and overcast skies seem to be the theme for the rest of the week.
The near-term forecast predicts a spotty instance or two of light rain or drizzle early this morning as the bulk of the precipitation moves on. However, the area isn't quite clear of the clouds just yet. According to the National Weather Service, "clouds will remain abundant today" as high pressure coming from New England keeps temperatures hovering in the lower 50s, with possible patches of fog forming due to recent rainfall and lingering moisture.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the skies may clear up a bit. Sunshine makes its way back into the forecast Sunday, as reported by the National Weather Service. The relief might be short-lived, though, with another front on the horizon, likely carrying rain and snow showers for the mountains come Tuesday. So while Baltimore might see some solar rays concluding the weekend, another front from the Ohio River Valley is poised to stir things up by mid-next week.
For mariners caught in the middle of these changes, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect from 1 PM Wednesday to 10 PM EST this evening for certain areas of the Chesapeake Bay and lower tidal Potomac River. Post-cold front conditions should mean brisk north to northwest winds on Saturday, but by Sunday and into next week, expect calmer waters with high pressure settling in.
