Yesterday morning in Baltimore, hundreds gathered to run the Amy Armstrong Pookie Trot, a 5K race organized in honor of Amy Armstrong, who tragically lost her life last year in Brewers Hill. The event was held in remembrance of Armstrong and to support the fight against domestic violence. Amy, fondly recalled as "Pookie" by her family in her youth, was remembered for her light and presence that, according to her sister Michelle Armstrong, "made it lighter."

Michelle, together with the Armstrong family, set out to not only remember Amy but also to actively contribute to preventing future tragic incidents like the one that took Amy's life. They decided to partner with the One Love Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to educating young people about intimate partner violence. The Armstrongs chose to donate all proceeds from the Pookie Trot to this cause. Amid the recollection of loss, they were determined to "turn pain into purpose," as Michelle Armstrong expressed in a previous statement.

The significance of the Pookie Trot extended beyond the Armstrong family, touching an entire community that felt Amy's loss. Robert Armstrong reflected on the support received, saying via WBAL TV, "We certainly couldn't get through all the grief and the loss without the support." The event thus acted as a testament to Amy's impact on the community as much as it did to her memory.

The 5K commenced at Reservoir High School in Fulton, with participants having the option to walk or run. The event concluded with a post-race celebration at Hudson Coastal Raw Bar and Grill. Registrations were accepted up until 8 a.m. on the day of the event, allowing everyone a chance to contribute to the cause and celebrate Amy's legacy. In commenting on the family's hope for the event, Robert Armstrong made it clear they wished to make every effort "worthwhile" if it could potentially save even one family from experiencing a similar tragedy.

Baltimore police reported an arrest made in connection with the homicide last year. Still, the ongoing legal case surrounding Amy’s death meant the family was unable to comment further on the circumstances.
