The city of Baltimore prepares to bid farewell to Deputy Mayor Anthony Barksdale after his unexpected passing last Thursday night at the age of 53, with several memorial events scheduled for this week. According to WMAR 2 News, Barksdale, who held the position of deputy mayor for public safety and was a former acting police commissioner, will be remembered during public viewings at the Sol Levinson Funeral Home on Reisterstown Road in Pikesville tonight and tomorrow, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
His funeral is set for the morning of November 12th at New Shiloh Baptist Church in West Baltimore, with the service commencing at 10 a.m., after the public viewings, Barksdale's life achievements and contributions to the city will be honored as he will be laid to rest with full police honors, including a graveside service at Arbutus Memorial Park which is scheduled from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. the same day, as reported by FOX Baltimore.
While no immediate cause of death has been disclosed for Barksdale, who played a significant role in Baltimore's public safety sector for years, his struggle with heart issues is well-documented, and it prompted him to retire from the Baltimore Police Department in 2014 after a protracted period of medical absence.
