Baltimore City grappled with a surge in gun violence this past weekend, with three people killed and at least seven others wounded in a series of shootings. According to WMAR2 News, the incidents have marked a significant spike in such violence compared to recent weeks. Yesterday afternoon, one man lost his life in the 3200 block of Chelsea Terrace. This was one of multiple shootings throughout the weekend, which also witnessed a triple shooting on Saturday afternoon, resulting in another fatality.
Of the injured, CBS News reported that victims included individuals as young as 18, with at least four victims 26 years old or younger. The violence spread across various parts of the city, from an early Sunday shooting in South Baltimore to a critical injury in downtown Baltimore in the early hours of Saturday. Despite the police reporting reduced year-to-date homicide and non-fatal shooting numbers, with homicides at 120 compared to last year's 176 and non-fatal shootings at 278 compared to 369 from 2024, residents express deep skepticism.
Meanwhile, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott has recognized the downward trend in the city's gun violence. Pointing to a 31.7% decrease in homicides and a 22% decline in non-fatal shootings in 2025, the mayor credits collaborative efforts among law enforcement, violence intervention programs, and the community for these improvements. However, in the face of the weekend tragedies, these statistics offer little comfort to a city still reeling from gun violence. Despite the reductions, approximately 2,200 victims of gun violence were counted within the past 12 months in Baltimore City, including 446 shootings, as reported by CBS News.
No arrests have been reported in connection with this weekend's shootings. Community members with information are encouraged to contact authorities or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP to assist with the ongoing investigations.
