Shane Jacquces Barfield of Bartow County has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm, which he fired at police officers. The incident involved a stolen gun and methamphetamine and occurred after Barfield was in a car crash on September 17, 2023, according to a U.S. Attorney’s office release. Cartersville Police responded to a 911 call reporting Barfield with a gun, and three officers returned fire when he discharged the weapon. No one was injured.

Barfield also received three years of supervised release following his prison term. He pleaded guilty earlier this year, to firearm possession by a convicted felon and firearm possession by a person convicted of a misdemeanor domestic violence offense. Assistant U.S. Attorney Katie Terry prosecuted the case.

The investigation and arrest were conducted in coordination between the Cartersville Police Department and the FBI. Additional case details are available through the U.S. Attorney’s Public Affairs Office.
