Elkton's waterside dining scene suffered a significant blow as UnWined on the Water, a beloved local restaurant, fell victim to a fierce blaze early this morning. Firefighters were called to the scene at 285 Plum Point Road around 1:40 a.m., where they encountered a significant structure fire, as reported by WBAL-TV. Despite the efforts of multiple response teams, the establishment could not be saved.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal's office confirmed that Singerly Fire Company, along with aid from neighboring counties, managed to bring the two-alarm fire under control within approximately two hours. An excavator was brought in to assist with the removal of the aftermath, yet the building ultimately succumbed to the flames and collapsed, as WMAR-2 News reported. No injuries have been reported in the incident.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal continues to investigate, working to uncover the origin of the conflagration that turned a center of local social life into ruins.
