The indictment of a suspect in the murder of actor Jonathan Joss has been handed down by a Bexar County grand jury, as allegations and circumstances of the event continue to draw public attention. Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 57, has been charged in the fatal shooting of Joss, who was known for his roles voicing John Redcorn on "King of the Hill" and portraying Chief Ken Hotate on "Parks and Recreation." According to KSAT, the indictment came through on Monday.
On June 1, in the 200 block of Dorsey Drive, an area where Joss previously experienced a home fire on January 23, he was shot just after 7 p.m. while apparently checking his mail. Alvarez, after parking behind Joss's vehicle, engaged in an argument with him. Reportedly, shots were fired by Alvarez using a rifle. Arrested shortly after the incident, Alvarez, at the scene declared, "I shot him," as obtained by a San Antonio Police Department report described by KSAT.
The court records show that Alvarez's case will be heard in Bexar County's 437th Criminal District Court, under Judge Joel Perez. Not long after his arrest, Alvarez was released from jail on a $200,000 bond. Meanwhile, Alvarez’s attorney, Nico LaHood, has asserted his client's defense. In an interview with KSAT back in June, LaHood said, "This was leading up, unfortunately... And, as you know, people in Texas have a right not to be a victim. You have a right to self-defense. You have a right to the defense of third persons legally and under the law, and we believe that applies here."
Joss was pronounced dead at the scene and was 59 at the time of his death. While the legal proceedings are underway, the precise date for Alvarez's next court appearance remains unclear. The actor was widely recognized as Jonathan Joss Gonzales legally, with a notable career in television.
