Authorities in Upper Manhattan arrested 41-year-old Luis Marquez and charged him with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Carmen Lopez. The stabbing occurred in a West Harlem apartment building on Monday, according to Gothamist.

NYPD officials took Luis Marquez into custody yesterday. He is accused of stabbing 47-year-old Carmen Lopez multiple times in her West 129th Street apartment building near St. Nicholas Terrace around 4:30 a.m. First responders transported Lopez to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Residents of the building reported discovering evidence of the crime in shared spaces.

As per ABC7NY, surveillance footage from the building shows Marquez waiting in a third-floor hallway before attacking Lopez as she arrived. Friends and family described Lopez, known as "Yadi," as a dedicated mother and a good friend. Outside the building, loved ones gathered to pay their respects, leaving flowers and offering support to one another.

Lopez reportedly lived with several of her children. Marquez, from Highbridge in the Bronx, was taken into custody after receiving a mental health evaluation at Lincoln Hospital. Authorities say he has no prior criminal history and is awaiting arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.
