A Bronx man received a seven-year prison sentence for shooting that injured a 2-year-old boy, the Bronx District Attorney's Office confirmed. Freddy Flores, 20, was convicted of attempted murder after firing shots on a crowded street on March 30, 2024. The incident, which took place on Fordham Road near the Grand Concourse, left the toddler wounded a day before his third birthday.
As reported by the Bronx District Attorney Office, Flores pleaded guilty on September 17, leading to his sentencing on attempted murder charges. Bronx Supreme Court Justice Timothy Lewis ruled that, following his prison term, Flores will also be subjected to five years of post-release supervision. "This was cold-blooded gun violence that harmed a toddler the day before his third birthday and caused fear and shock to shoppers and pedestrians on busy Fordham Road on a Saturday afternoon," District Attorney Darcel D. Clark stated.
The young victim was struck in the lower back but has since made a recovery following treatment at New York Health + Hospitals Jacobi. The prosecution of the case was carried out by the Public Integrity Bureau of the Bronx District Attorney's Office, with Assistant District Attorney Christian Commelin leading the charge. The team working on the case, supervised by a cadre of public integrity officials, included Cassie Perez, Sarah Clements, Jon Veiga, Denise Kodjo, and Wanda Perez-Maldonado.
District Attorney Clark extended gratitude towards NYPD Detective Ryan Lawrence of the 52nd Precinct Detective Squad for his diligence in the case. "The defendant has been held accountable and now will spend years in prison," Clark added on the Bronx District Attorney's Office.
