As the season shifts, Brooklyn Park residents are reminded to be mindful of their environmental footprint, especially in the way they handle waste. This week, the city has emphasized the importance of proper recycling practices and has introduced a convenient option for disposing of Halloween pumpkins in an eco-friendly manner.
Residents need to ensure that recycling carts are placed by the curb no later than 6:30 a.m. on collection days. According to information from the city's recent bulletin, Brooklyn Park's official announcement, "Crews have until 6:00 p.m. to finish collection." It's important to place your cart at least three feet away from mailboxes or other objects and to correctly orient the handle away from the street. For those looking to quickly dispatch their recyclables, avoid the common mistake of bagging your recyclables — plastic bags, in particular, will be tossed aside unopened at sorting facilities.
Post-holiday, residents with no access to a personal compost bin or organic recycling option now have the means to responsibly part with their pumpkins. Brooklyn Park has set up a free pumpkin drop-off container located in Central Park's parking lot off Noble Avenue. It's critical, however, to remember to clean the pumpkins before disposal. "Please remove all candles, candle wax and decorations before disposal," the city outlined in its statement on recycling week.
