The Cabarrus County Department of Social Services (DSS) is gearing up for its final Health Fair extravaganza of the year, aiming to address community needs with free health resources, essential cold-weather gear, and sustenance. Scheduled for December 12, the fair is set to welcome visitors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., making its home at the county's EMS Headquarters located at 793 Cabarrus Ave. W.

In a collaborative effort that showcases the power of community partnership, DSS has secured alliances with local organizations to not just disseminate information but also goods at no cost. The fair patrons, bracing the winter temperatures, can look forward to complimentary lunches thanks to Monarch's sponsorship. Screwed by the biting cold, the event plans to offer relief via winter gear—which includes scarves and gloves—that will be available "while supplies last," according to the Cabarrus County official announcement.

Healthcare providers and advocacy groups are not the only ones to stamp their presence at the event. Vendors like WellCare and United Healthcare, along with nonprofit organizations such as Cooperative Christian Ministry and Breast Cancer Hub, will be featured among the roster. Companies ranging from Partners Health Management to Youth Villages will fill out the over dozen participants expected to engage with the fair-goers.

Well ahead of the fair, DSS has initiated a community-wide call for donations aimed to amplify the impact of their seasonal giving. In the spirit of warmth and giving, lightly used or new cold-weather essentials such as hats, coats, and blankets are currently being collected alongside new socks until December 5. Strategically placed across the county, donation drop-off locations include the Sheriff’s Office, at 30 Corban Ave. SE, and Lively Therapy at 1401 South Ridge Ave., among others. The initiative, open for a generous heart, also accepts donations during the day of the event.
