A Canton police officer, Dave Wolgamott, lost his life in a car accident while en route to work yesterday morning. The fatal incident occurred in the 800 block of Cherry Ave. SE at approximately 6:53 a.m., as confirmed by the Canton Police Department. Officer Wolgamott, a longtime member of the force, was hired on August 22, 2006, and was 47 years of age at the time of the accident. In a statement detailed by Cleveland19, CPD described him as "a dedicated member of our team for more than 19 years."
Lt. Dennis Garren, a spokesman for the department, reported that Wolgamott was transported to a nearby hospital after the crash, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The Canton Police Department remembered Officer Wolgamott's service and dedication to the community in a heartfelt Facebook post, cited by WKYC, "His commitment to serving and protecting the residents of Canton earned him the respect of his fellow officers and the community he proudly served."
