On the eve of Veterans Day, the Chanhassen community gathered to recognize the valor and sacrifice of its military veterans. The mayor, during an event at the Senior Center, underscored the community's gratitude. "As I looked into the audience and saw the proud servicemembers donning their branch of service logos, I got a little choked up as I expressed my love of country and immense appreciation for their service," the mayor said in a statement obtained by the local publication. This sentiment was a prelude to Veterans Day, as the city sought to publicly honor those who've served.
Over at the new City Hall, which opened its doors to the public last weekend, nearly 600 citizens turned out, eager to engage and learn more about the city's operations. The open house was a hit among residents. According to the City of Chanhassen, the mayor remarked, "I personally enjoyed seeing familiar faces as well as meeting many of you with whom I’ve communicated over the years." Gratitude flowed not only towards the attendees but also to the Communications team and city staff, who offered their energies on a Saturday to welcome the community.
One notable topic that emerged during the event pertained to the upcoming Highway 7 project. Despite concerns about communication gaps, the city clarified its current role in the initiative. "The project is in the 'study' phase and the city has limited involvement as MnDOT is leading the effort," the mayor explained in the public address. With plans for preliminary design work in the spring of 2026, more active city engagement and community feedback are anticipated.
As for the project's progression, the mayor has joined forces with a coalition of mayors, city managers, and engineers. This group aims to work collectively on evaluating the plan, addressing safety, and exploring funding. "We are in the early stages of this coalition with the goal to have a unified approach to improve this important segment of highway," the mayor relayed to his constituents. Despite the early stage, the city promises to keep the community updated.
