An early-morning shooting involving Dallas police outside a downtown nightclub left two people dead and multiple others wounded today, according to authorities. Officers were called to the Commerce Street strip just after 2 a.m., and a massive law enforcement response kept parts of downtown sealed off for hours while investigators combed through the scene. Police said the suspected gunman and one shooting victim were pronounced dead outside the club, and several other people were rushed to local hospitals.
Officers Responded Near Hyde and Seek
The Dallas Police Department said officers were dispatched to 2026 Commerce Street, outside the Hyde and Seek nightclub, shortly after 2 a.m., according to NBC 5. Police confronted an armed person during the disturbance, and an officer-involved shooting followed, the outlet reported. Detectives have not yet released the names of those killed or provided a detailed timeline of what led up to the gunfire.
Two Dead, Others Hospitalized
Dallas police said the suspect and one victim died at the scene, and that additional people were taken to area hospitals for treatment. No officers were reported injured, as reported by The Dallas Morning News. The paper noted that authorities did not immediately specify how many people were shot or describe their conditions, and local hospitals have not released any patient counts tied to the incident.
Witnesses Describe Gunfire
Witnesses told NBC 5 the chaos started with a fight between at least two people outside the club, followed by a barrage of gunfire that sounded like as many as 15 shots. FOX 4 reported that four people were shot in total, with two pronounced dead and two others taken to a nearby hospital. One witness told NBC 5, “I thought I got hit. I was so close to the body ... I’m just glad I didn’t,” describing people sprinting away from the valet area as the scene erupted. Local coverage also reported that more than 90 police units from across the city were dispatched downtown in the early-morning scramble.
Downtown Disruption And Court Closure
Commerce Street between Harwood and Pearl, along with parts of nearby Pearl Street, remained closed for several hours while detectives documented the scene and collected evidence. The Dallas Municipal Court building, which sits next to the shooting location, was closed Monday, according to a city announcement cited by Spectrum News. City officials said normal court operations are expected to resume Tuesday morning and that anyone with a scheduled appearance will receive rescheduling information. Authorities also urged the public to steer clear of the immediate area while the investigation continues.
Investigation Underway
The Dallas Police Department has labeled the shooting an active investigation and logged the case under number 168860-2025 on its public information blog, noting that updates will be posted as detectives gather more details. Specialized units that review officer-involved uses of force are expected to scrutinize the sequence of events and any available body-worn camera footage. Police have asked anyone with video or information from around the club at the time of the shooting to contact investigators as they work to piece together exactly what unfolded outside Hyde and Seek.
