The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) recently celebrated the graduation of 14 Sergeants from its Sergeant Leadership Development Course. According to a social media post by CMPD News, these sergeants serve as direct supervisors for much of the force.

The CMPD News stated that investing in sergeants is a direct way to reach many officers and raise overall standards. The department indicated that empowering sergeants is intended to positively influence the performance of officers in the field. CMPD also noted that these sergeants play a central role in daily operations, as they are the ones responding to calls and handling day-to-day work.
Captain Trent Beam told the CMPD News, "Our Sergeants have the most influence." He explained that the course was designed to specifically develop the leadership skills of those in mid-level command positions.
The completion of the Sergeant Leadership Development Course is another step in CMPD's ongoing efforts to improve their force to meet the needs of the community. The department said that investing in leadership development will help maintain high standards and benefit the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community.
