According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the situation began when troopers observed "multiple suspected stolen high-performance vehicles" on state Route 2 around 6:20 a.m. These vehicles, identified as Dodge and Chevy models taken from Sliman's Dodge in Amherst, lacked proper license plates and were additionally obscured by the drivers wearing ski masks, WKYC reported.
As law enforcement intensified their efforts to halt the illegal procession, a pursuit ensued, leading to a direct collision of one vehicle with a marked Lorain County Sheriff's vehicle on Route 611. The impact caused minor injuries to a deputy who was subsequently treated and released from a local hospital, FOX8 noted. Another pursuit participant crashed, and two male suspects were apprehended on site, while two others remain at large after one fled on foot following a skirmish with officers and another abandoned a vehicle.
The pursuit spanned a window of chaos in which at least one other, freshly stolen vehicle was reported, believed to be connected to the series of events perpetrated by these masked suspects. During the law enforcement response, drone and K-9 units were employed in the search across fields near the scene, giving a clear indication of a strategy to surrender no quarter to the remaining fugitives, as captured from above by SkyFOX, WKYC stated.
