In a recent crackdown on drug trafficking, a Chicago man faces multiple felony charges after being apprehended in Naperville, as reported by CBS News Chicago. Brock Okennard, 45, was charged with nine felony counts, including possession of methamphetamine, intent to deliver, being in possession of cocaine and cannabis, and resisting arrest, following a tussle with police that left three officers with minor injuries.
The DuPage County State's Attorney and Naperville police were tipped off by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration on November 8 regarding the suspect's activities. Officials indicated that Okennard had been trafficking meth from California to Illinois and was expected to arrive by Amtrak train in Naperville. Upon his arrival at the train station, Okennard attempted to evade police, leading to a brief struggle before he was taken into custody, according to FOX 32 Chicago.
Investigations following his arrest led to the discovery of 153 grams of a pink powdery substance confirmed to be meth and cocaine, and nearly a kilogram of cannabis in Okennard's backpack. He now faces serious legal repercussions, including a December 8 court date.
State’s Attorney Robert Berlin commented on the gravity of the situation, stating the accused was "spreading addiction, pain and misery." The charges against Okennard underscore the severity of his alleged actions: possession of a Class X felony amount of methamphetamine, intent to deliver, two counts of possession of a controlled substance - cocaine, and manufacture/delivery of cannabis, among other offenses - marking a substantial drug seizure for Naperville law enforcement and highlighting the ongoing battle against substance trafficking.
