The streets of South Chicago will see an uptick in police presence this weekend as the Chicago Police Department (CPD) implements a DUI Saturation Patrol from Friday evening to early Saturday morning. As reported on the official Chicago Police Department website, officers will be closely monitoring traffic in the 4th District, looking specifically for indications of impaired driving starting at 6 p.m., November 7, 2025, through 2 a.m. November 8, 2025.
The CPD states that the patrol's mission is "to saturate a pre-designated area with roving police officers that continually monitor vehicular traffic for signs of impaired driving." Beyond watching for DUI offenders, officers will also be seeking out speedsters and seat belt violations, aiming to quickly detain and charge suspected violators using the Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit.
This increased enforcement isn't new to Chicagoans. The CPD's last operation in the 1st (Central) District, which took place over Halloween weekend, resulted in pushing out a total of 20 citations for various offenses, as indicated by official figures from the CPD. Nevertheless, the results showed zero tolerance for DUI, with no charges for drunk driving being recorded despite a noticeable focus on speed violations, which racked up 17 tickets.
Apart from ticketing, the DUI Saturation Patrol allows police to potentially expedite the charging process for those suspected of DUI through the use of the BAT Mobile Unit. According to CPD, it enables officers "to
expedite the process of charging a person with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) prior to transporting an alleged into the nearest lockup for bonding." The results from such patrols can vary, with the last reported saturation patrol in the Central district citing a sole instance of child seat violation and one situation involving driving without a license, amid stops for speed violations and other traffic-related tickets.
