A Hamilton County corrections officer, Jordan Anderson, age 26, was arrested on accusations of utilizing his belt to strike an inmate. As FOX19 reported, the incident allegedly transpired within the walls of the county jail located in downtown Cincinnati. Anderson now faces a misdemeanor assault charge for the altercation that took place on Nov. 19.
According to the affidavit obtained by FOX19, Anderson was reported to have removed his belt and "struck (the inmate) two times in the lower back/buttock region" while on duty. The sheriff's detective noted in the affidavit that Anderson has "admitted" to the use of physical force against the inmate. In a system where justice and order are paramount, it is particularly disquieting to discover that those appointed to diligently secure these virtues are instead caught in their violation.
Following the incident, Anderson has been detained in the same facility in which he was employed, pending his court appearance scheduled for Friday, as confirmed by Cincinnati.com. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office has reacted to the situation by placing Anderson on administrative leave as they conduct a criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault.
While details remain under review, what is clear is Anderson's employment status as a corrections officer, as noted in the national salary database OpenPayroll and revealed by documents cited by Cincinnati.com. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office has publicly acknowledged the arrest and the associated administrative leave, but has yet to release more information. In a statement to FOX19, they stated, “This incident is still under investigation, and we will release the full report as soon as the investigation is complete.” The nature of the allegations against Anderson underscores an unsettling breach of protocol and trust, thrusting the conversation surrounding corrections officers' conduct back into the public discourse.
