Clarkston Community Schools in Oakland County put all buildings on a shelter-in-place on Wednesday morning after the sheriff’s office alerted school officials about ICE activity near Pine Knob Music Theater. Superintendent Shawn Ryan told families, “the activity is not in our schools. However, out of an abundance of caution, we are moving ALL BUILDINGS to a shelter-in-place at this time,” according to CBS News Detroit

Students continued classes as usual, but recess was moved indoors and access to school buildings was limited, as stated in an email sent to parents. The notice to schools came as ICE was reportedly searching for two individuals in the area, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit.

WXYZ captured footage from Chopper 7 showing sheriff’s office vehicles and unmarked law enforcement units near Pine Knob off Sashabaw Rd., leaving the area around 11 a.m. The sheriff’s office said they were assisting ICE in searching for two people who had escaped custody. The shelter-in-place order was lifted later in the morning. No further details on the ICE operation have been released. Pine Knob, currently in its off-season for concerts, is still scheduled to open its Magic of Lights outdoor displays on Friday, unrelated to the ICE activity.
