The city of Clayton has seen a spate of criminal activities as detailed in the latest bi-weekly police incident report, spanning from November 3 to November 16. The Clayton Police Department had its hands full with a total of 782 calls for service, which included 35 vehicle crashes and 103 assists to other agencies. In a statement obtained by the City of Clayton's official website, several notable incidents were outlined.
Among the variety of situations reported, a maintenance supervisor interrupted an alleged burglary at a local apartment on November 3 resulting in a suspect fleeing the scene in a black Toyota Tundra. In a separate episode, a resident's window was damaged by an unknown perpetrator, adding to a list that includes multiple thefts and disturbances, such as the theft of a woman's wallet at 801 Chophouse on November 6, and the arrest of a man for yelling at passersby in the Moorlands neighborhood.
Vehicle-related incidents were especially prevalent. A crash on South Hanley and Clayton Roads required tow services, and a resident reported her sunroof shattered with no identified suspects. Additionally, two leaving-the-scene crashes were reported, highlighting a concerning trend of hit-and-runs within the city limits.
Amid these incidents, a more harrowing case unfolded on November 12th, where a former roommate, Ahmad Alamir, was charged with burglary and armed criminal action after invading an apartment with intent to cause harm. “With assistance from a University City Police Department K9 team, officers tracked the suspect from the scene to an alley,” according to the same City of Clayton official website. The collaborative efforts led to the successful apprehension of Alamir who remains in custody on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
As the police department continues its investigative work, calling upon community cooperation for further information, they also report an encounter on November 14 resulting in the discovery of automatic rifle-style pistols in a vehicle, with a subsequent arrest for possession of the unregistered weapons. The Clayton PD affirmed that community engagement is critical to their work, emphasizing the valuable role public cooperation plays in fostering a safe environment.
The report also touched on another peculiar event where a man in a security uniform was seen stealing alcohol from a CVS store, which was later followed by a successful apprehension of the suspect in what developed into a case of shoplifting, receiving stolen property, and forgery. The incident encapsulates an ongoing struggle against various forms of property crimes within the Clayton area.
Clayton residents and visitors are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the CPD as the combination of public alertness and diligent police work strives to maintain law and order across the city.
