Get ready to stretch those legs and hit the pavement for a good cause if you're in the Columbus area this Thanksgiving. As reported by the City of Upper Arlington, the annual Columbus Turkey Trot returns for its 40th year on Thursday, November 27. Runners will have a five-mile route to contend with, while walkers can enjoy a shorter 2.8-mile course. The event kicks off from the Shops on Lane Avenue and serves as a benefit for the Easter Seals of Central Ohio and Southeast Ohio, supporting individuals with disabilities.

While the Turkey Trot is a cherished tradition for many, residents should take note of the traffic restrictions laid out by the UA Police Department, which will be in effect from 8 am to Noon on the day of the run. Lane Avenue will be shut down to through traffic between Northwest Boulevard and the city limits, just to the east of North Star Road, but access to parking for the Lane Avenue Shopping Center will be maintained. Also, Columbus Police will be cutting off Lane Avenue from UA's borders for eastbound traffic, among other road closures, including North Star Road, Brandon Road, Chester Road, and several more in the vicinity.

Moreover, if you plan to park near the event, be aware that a slew of temporary parking restrictions are set to begin from Midnight leading up to Noon on the run's morning. Streets affected include Ashdowne Road, Berkshire Road, Cardiff Road, Doone Road, and a handful of others, with parking prohibited on the fire hydrant side of these streets. For those looking to participate, registration remains open until 6 pm on Wednesday, November 26.

For anyone interested in hitting their stride before indulging in the holiday feast, the Turkey Trot represents an opportunity to balance indulgence with exercise. There's still time to sign up, and for additional event details, including registration information and route maps, trot on over to the Upper Arlington website by clicking here.
