The Columbus Division of Police has reported the arrest of Joseph Gerich in connection with the murder of Robert Russell. According to a social media post from the Columbus Division of Police, Gerich turned himself in on Thursday, November 20, after being identified by detectives with the help of the community.
The incident, which led to Russell's death, occurred in the early hours of November 2, when police were called to the 1700 block of N. High St. and found the 21-year-old suffering from stab wounds. He was later transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. This outcome was a dire conclusion to an episode that began as a minor disagreement and escalated tragically – illustrating yet again the swift and irreversible nature of violence.
Gerich, who is 22 years old, has now been charged with murder, and the Columbus Police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Russell's death. In the announcement of the arrest, police underscored the ongoing nature of the investigation, emphasizing their call for anyone with further information to reach out to Columbus Police Detective Johnson.
The division's appeal to the public indicates a discernible thirst for additional facts that could shed light on the evening Russell lost his life; accordingly, Detective Johnson is available at 614-645-4488 or via email at [email protected], and anonymous tips can also be submitted through Central Ohio Crime Stoppers by calling 614-461-TIPS (8477).
