
A tragic incident occurred in Algoma Township, near Rockford, where a young child was struck and fatally injured by a pickup truck. WoodTV reports that the 5-year-old was hit yesterday, after 10:30 a.m. on Lady Lauren Drive NE. According to the Kent County Sheriff's Office, the child was in the road when the vehicle, navigating a bend, collided with them.
The child was quickly taken to a local hospital, but unfortunately, despite efforts to quickly save their life, passed away. The incident has deeply affected the community, with the Kent County Sheriff's Office sharing their sentiments, "This is a painful and tragic loss, and our entire team is thinking about the family, their friends, and the neighborhood affected by this," as stated on WZZM13.
The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene following the collision and cooperated with law enforcement officials. As per the Kent County Sheriff's Office's official statement obtained by CBS News, the Traffic Safety Unit is currently handling the investigation. No further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident or the identity of the child have been released to the public.
