An unexpected blaze at a Phoenix wastewater treatment plant on Thursday left one man with superficial injuries. FOX 10 Phoenix reports that the fire started around 9:30 a.m. near 91st and Sunland Avenues, sending smoke billowing from a subterranean tunnel.

According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Officials described the fire as having originated 10 feet underground. This forced an evacuation of the facility as a safety measure. "The contractor (adult male) was treated at a local hospital in stable condition for superficial burns to his hands and face and is expected to recover," Phoenix Fire Capt. Todd Keller explained, to swiftly ensure the safety and well-being of those involved.

As per ABC15, the fire, which broke out in a digester tunnel, did not interfere with wastewater services or impact the surrounding residential area, averting a potential interruption to indispensable city infrastructure.
