A Crestwood man is facing serious charges after a drug-related incident that sickened eight first responders in September, per local authorities. The episode, which necessitated a HAZMAT team's intervention, unfolded when emergency crews responded to what was supposed to be a routine well-being check at a residence on the 12700 block of S. Central Ave., as reported by WGN-TV.
Upon arrival, first responders found John Fiacchino unresponsive on the floor and were quickly overcome by noxious fumes emanating from an unknown substance on the stovetop, unfortunately leading to four police officers and four firefighters experiencing negative effects that required hospitalization, though all eight later returned home after being released, according to officials; details reported by WGN-TV and NBC Chicago.
Investigative efforts continued as substances found at the scene were sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for further testing. After a thorough review of the materials, Crestwood police took Fiacchino into custody. He now faces felony charges for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms with intent to deliver, in addition to a reckless conduct charge. These charges were detailed in statements acquired by both NBC Chicago and WGN-TV.
