The City of Dallas is extending a hand to its older population with a free event aimed at addressing housing issues faced by seniors. The 2025 Aging & Housing Summit, happening this Friday, is a collaboration between the City of Dallas Office of Housing & Community Empowerment's Age-Friendly Senior Services and Fair Housing Division, and partners such as AARP and the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC).
According to the City of Dallas, the summit will guide participants through a variety of critical topics: from understanding tenant rights to navigating affordable housing opportunities, to strategies for preventing homelessness among the elderly. It promises to bring together experts and advocates to disseminate resources and foster connections with local organizations ready to offer their support.
Set to take place at Winfrey Point, situated at 950 E Lawther Dr. in Dallas, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, the summit is one of the many community-oriented events the city sponsors. Those interested in attending can register online through the city's dedicated housing portal for older adults. With a wide array of partners such as the Dallas Housing Coalition, Austin Street Center, Dallas Housing Authority, and several others, the event is a mosaic of communal spirit and outreach.
Furthermore, the summit will address homeowners' needs by presenting resources and assistance specifically tailored for those who own their residences. With keynote speakers from organizations including Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, the Dallas Central Appraisal District, and Builders of Hope CDC, the summit is stacking its roster with a blend of legal aid, expertise, and compassionate activism. Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity and Frazier Revitalization are also part of the forefront, contributing to the broader dialogue on securing adequate shelter for aging Dallasites.
