A northeast Dallas Walmart turned into a crime scene yesterday after police say a man tracked his partner to the store, opened fire in the parking lot, and later died of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot. Two women were taken to a hospital and were reported to be in stable condition, while detectives worked into the evening to piece together what led up to the shooting.

Where And When It Unfolded

Dallas Fire-Rescue said crews were dispatched around 3:23 p.m. to the Walmart on Forest Lane near Abrams Road, with multiple rescue units responding, according to CBS Texas. Officials told the outlet that two adult women were transported to a nearby hospital and were listed as stable.

Witnesses Describe A Frantic Scene

Shoppers described a burst of gunfire that shattered the routine afternoon. "It just kept popping," witness Serrano Baldeo told CBS Texas, recalling a man firing multiple shots at a woman in the parking lot. Video and photos from the scene showed police tape cordoning off part of the area and a tarp draped over a vehicle as officers worked the case.

Police: Man Tracked Partner Before Opening Fire

Local station KENS5 reported that the man had tracked his partner to the store before the shooting and that one of the women was grazed by a bullet. Dallas police later found the suspected gunman dead inside a parked vehicle from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot, and a Walmart spokesperson declined to comment, referring questions to law enforcement, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Investigation Still Active

Authorities have not released the suspect's name or identified a motive, and the investigation remains active, WBAP reports. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence as they work to determine what led up to the gunfire in the busy parking lot.
