Two Davenport locals faced arrest after an attempted car burglary in the Atlantica Town Center area, the Polk County Sheriff's Office reported last night. The suspects, identified as 19-year-old Warren Accoo III and 18-year-old Brian Cruz, allegedly tried to break into a vehicle before being interrupted and subsequently fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred around 9:15 pm, prompting deputies to the location off of Old Lake Wilson Road where encountering the pair proved less onerous than one might expect, the suspects led officers on a brief chase, jumping a fence, but their freedom was short-lived with the Polk County Sheriff's Aviation Unit and a K-9 in pursuit they were located attempting to hide. In a news release obtained by Polk Sheriff's Office, it was detailed that Accoo III and Cruz were taken to the Sheriff's Processing Center on multiple charges.
Both young men now face charges including Attempted Burglary of Conveyance (F3), Trespassing on a Construction Site (F3), and Resisting without Violence (M1), as per the Sheriff's release. This event marks yet another blemish on the usually peaceful neighborhood, putting residents on heightened alert and casting a shadow over the area's sense of security.
