A crash yesterday evening on North Side Loop 1604 killed a 25-year-old motorcyclist after his bike collided with the back of a stopped vehicle, San Antonio police said. The crash occurred around 7:45 p.m. in the 3700 block of N. Loop 1604 East near Bulverde Road. Emergency crews pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene, according to police.
A preliminary report from the San Antonio Police Department, cited by KSAT, says the 25-year-old motorcyclist was traveling east on the Loop 1604 access road when he entered the on-ramp and hit a vehicle that had stopped in the main lanes after an earlier crash. Police have not released further details about the rider.
Officers and fire crews responded to the scene. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the victim and determine the cause and manner of death. The crash is still under investigation.
Loop 1604 construction and safety
The North Loop 1604 corridor is part of a multi-year expansion project with occasional overnight and weekend closures, according to TxDOT. Police told KSAT that the car the motorcycle hit had stopped due to an earlier crash, not construction. Investigators are still determining what caused the collision.
Police have not released the motorcyclist’s name or other identifying information, and it is unclear if any charges will be filed. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details have been released.
