The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is asking San Antonio residents to help identify a man investigators believe fraudulently used a victim's credit or debit card. The agency is also investigating a broader skimming operation involving gas pumps across the city earlier this month. Photos of the unidentified suspect were shared in a post urging the public to come forward with any information.
The sheriff's office captioned the images “Attempt to identify – please share,” according to the agency's post on Bexar County Sheriff's Office on Facebook. News 4 San Antonio reported that the suspect fraudulently used a victim's credit or debit card at a store in the 700 block of Castroville Road.
Skimmers Found at Three Gas Stations
The case traces back to an investigation the sheriff's office disclosed earlier this month, when it said it was searching for a man believed to be involved in a credit card skimming ring operating in San Antonio, per KSAT. Investigators told the station the skimming events happened at gas pumps in three locations: the 8600 block of Huebner Road, the 4400 block of De Zavala Road, and the 31700 block of Interstate 10 West. Multiple fraudulent transactions reportedly occurred over a single 24-hour period.
Investigators believe the unidentified man was involved in credit card abuse and the use of skimming devices at those locations, the station's report states. All evidence points to skimmers being placed at the pumps, though it remains unclear exactly how the person collected victims' card information, according to the same account. As part of that ongoing investigation, investigators made follow-up visits to multiple convenience stores across San Antonio on Oct. 13 and Oct. 14.
Public Asked to Help Identify Suspect
The reports describe a card-fraud incident at a store and an earlier investigation into gas-pump skimming. The sheriff's office has not released the suspect's identity, description, or whereabouts, and no arrest has been announced.
Anyone with information about the individual's identity or whereabouts is asked to call the Bexar County Sheriff's Office at 210-335-6000 or submit a tip through the BCSO app, per News 4 San Antonio's earlier coverage of the skimming investigation. Investigators have not disclosed how many victims or transactions are tied to the case, or the total financial losses involved.
Pattern of Card Fraud Cases in Bexar County
This is not the first time this year the sheriff's office has turned to the public for help with alleged card fraud. In August, the agency sought help identifying suspects accused of fraudulently using a victim's credit or debit card at multiple locations, according to a separate News 4 San Antonio report. That earlier case does not appear to be directly tied to this month's skimming investigation based on available information.

For now, the sheriff's office is relying on the public to fill in the gaps, hoping someone recognizes the man in the newly released photographs and can point investigators toward a name.
