The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued an advisory, warning residents and travelers of reduced visibility across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. The advisory, which remains in effect until 9 AM CST Saturday, cautions that visibility may drop to one-quarter mile or less in dense fog. Motorists are advised to drive with care, using low beam headlights and maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, according to the Dense Fog Advisory.

According to the NWS, the dense fog is likely to cause travel disruptions early in the day before clearing up by mid-morning. Conditions are expected to then partly clear up, giving way to partly sunny skies with a high near 81 degrees. New Orleans and the surrounding areas should see a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 4 pm and 5 pm today, although the chance of precipitation sits at a modest 20 percent.

Tonight, residents can expect partly cloudy skies with temperatures dipping to a low around 62 degrees. The calm conditions are set to take a slight turn with the wind picking up from the north at around 5 mph after midnight. The start of the week looks mostly sunny with highs in the mid-70s, followed by a slightly warmer Monday, with a 40 percent chance of nighttime showers and thunderstorms.

The intermittent wet weather is set to continue with a similar pattern on Tuesday, carrying a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Predominantly cloudy skies during the evening might eventually give way to clearer conditions at night. Despite the turbulent weather, Thanksgiving Day is projected to be blessed with mostly sunny skies and a more comfortable high near 63 degrees, providing a welcome reprieve from the earlier humidity and rain, according to the NWS forecast.

For those concerned about the foggy conditions and potential travel implications, the Dense Fog Advisory states, "If driving, slow down, use your low beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you." The combination of fog, upcoming showers, and holiday travel demands extra caution on the roads this season. Residents should stay tuned to their local weather forecasts for the latest updates on conditions.
