In recognition of Veterans Day, the City of Denton will shut down operations on Tuesday, Nov. 11, with a scheduled reopening for most facilities the following morning at 8 a.m. This observance means a temporary pause to several city services, affecting everything from the airport to solid waste collection, as per the City of Denton.
Transport hubs, including the administrative offices at Denton's Airport, will be closed on Veterans Day, although the air traffic control tower will continue guiding planes from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Meanwhile, the airfield sticks to its 24-hour schedule. Closed for the holiday will also be the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center, but it's back to business with an adoption special for veterans and first responders on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Furthermore, all libraries in Denton will be taking a break on Nov. 11, aligning with the municipal courts' closure. But patrons and courthouse visitors can return on Wednesday, when normal hours will commence. Aside from the administrative quietude, spaces of leisure and recreation follow suit, including the Denton Civic Center and various community centers, though a select few facilities like the Denton Natatorium will remain open.
Despite the day off for most services, public safety departments reassuringly remain vigilant. On Veterans Day, the Denton Police Department non-emergency line operates as usual, even with a day delay for curbside trash and recycling pick-up that resumes with Wednesday collecting Tuesday's route. At the same time, the rest of the week's schedule shifts accordingly — a slight reordering of routine for the sake of honoring those who've served.
