Denver’s Five Points neighborhood is set to cement its historical heritage into its streetscape, literally. According to the City and County of Denver, the final design phase is shaping up to transform temporary installations into long-lasting tributes to the area's past along the Welton Street Corridor from 24th to 30th streets, while funding plans are still on the drawing board.
Under the project's scope, the goal is to jazz up the neighborhood by swapping out the makeshift paint-and-post approach used so far for robust green infrastructure and placemaking features between 24th and 30th streets. The proposed changes will integrate intersections, expand plazas, and enhance the area’s tree canopy, all with a nod to the heritage that breathes life into this urban canvas.
Creating spaces that welcome both residents and visitors alike is at the heart of this endeavor. As part of the planned updates, the expansion of the Five Points Intersection Plaza is pegged to include key design elements that do more than just beautify; they broadcast the historic culture of the Welton Street Corridor, per the City and County of Denver.
In conjunction with these visual and structural upgrades, the project also emphasizes a commitment to environmental sustainability, along with an initiative to improve walkability through widened sidewalks and ADA-compliant access points.
