A Detroit man has been formally charged with the 2024 death of his girlfriend's young daughter, Wayne County prosecutors reported. Twenty-one-year-old Lovenia Spivey faces charges of felony murder and first-degree child abuse following the tragic incident last November, which left a 3-year-old girl dead due to blunt force trauma, as per CBS News.
The girl had been discovered with injuries in a home on Riverview Street in Detroit around 2:40 a.m. on November 15, 2024. She was taken to the hospital, "where she later died from her injuries on Nov. 18, 2024," as stated in a CBS News report. The delay in charging Spivey has not been explained by authorities, prompting questions about the year-long gap between the girl's death and the subsequent arrest.
According to the medical examiner's findings, blunt force trauma to the head was the cause of death, a point reiterated by multiple sources. As of now, Spivey, who was the boyfriend of the victim's mother at the time of the incident, is being held accountable for the alleged assault that led to such tragic consequences, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit.
Spivey's arraignment was scheduled for the Friday afternoon following his arrest on Nov. 14, 2025, one year after the alleged crime took place. This information was corroborated by FOX 2 Detroit and WXYZ, with both media outlets highlighting the charges laid against the young Detroit man.
