Two men from Metro Detroit are facing charges following an incident that escalated into a sexual assault and kidnapping case in Downriver. A woman reported to Huron Township police that she had escaped from a residence where she was held against her will and assaulted multiple times throughout the night on October 29. The two individuals charged, according to ClickOnDetroit, are Albert Knapp, a 52-year-old homeowner, and Stanley Mason, a 59-year-old Pontiac resident.
With the assistance of state-of-the-art technology, Huron Township police apprehended Mason in Oakland County, utilizing the FLOCK camera system to identify and track him. The same system played a crucial role, in the eventual arrest of suspect Knapp at his residence in the Huron Estates Mobile Home Community. The two men now face a series of charges including first-degree criminal sexual conduct, and assault with intent to commit penetration, as reported by the Huron Township Department of Public Safety on social media.
Knapp and Mason were declared habitual offenders during the arraignment. Each received a $75,000 cash bond. The burden of proof now hinges on a probable cause hearing set for November 12, intended to determine the validity of the charges brought against the men before possibly proceeding to trial.
Everette Robbins, Huron Township Director of Public Safety, praised the victim's bravery in escaping the situation. "We are so thankful that the victim had the opportunity to flee and get herself to a safe place. The outcome could have been much worse, and I applaud her courage." Robbins also commended the effective use of the FLOCK camera system in the investigation, "This was a great validation of our implementation of the FLOCK camera system. Without it, we may never have been able to identify the second suspect and ultimately use it to quickly take him into custody. This is a great example of our detective bureau using every resource available to them to make sure a victim gets justice," he declared as per the Huron Township Department of Public Safety.
