In Detroit, the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency's (UIA) Local Office is back in business after significant upgrades intended to enhance the visitor experience. As reported by the Michigan Labor and Economic Opportunity, the office, located at Cadillac Place on W. Grand Blvd., aims to serve individuals with a mix of improved privacy, heightened security, and increased efficiency. UIA Director Jason Palmer expressed the importance of these renovations, "The changes we made were critical to improving privacy, security, and efficiency for people we serve face-to-face every day."

This reopening marks the completion of renovations in five Michigan local offices, an initiative spanning two years. Detroit's office is particularly notable for being the busiest among the 12 MI UIA offices. Visitors looking to make in-person appointments can now easily do so, needing only to visit the agency's website to schedule up to two weeks in advance. As part of its overarching mission, UIA is also on track to replace its outdated computer system by Summer 2026 with a modern solution designed to be user-friendly and equipped with robust anti-fraud measures.

The upgraded offices are just one part of the agency's approach to better assist Michigan workers. For those unable to make it to an office, the UIA also offers a "Chat with an Agent" service via the Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM) and a customer service line. Additionally, a plethora of online resources are available, including the UIA Claimant Roadmap, instructional videos on YouTube, and MiUI University, which is a platform developed to educate about the upcoming MiUI computer system.
