Durham County residents can safely dispose of hazardous household waste today. Durham County General Services will accept these items from 8 a.m. to noon at the Northern Durham Convenience Site, 11894 N. Roxboro Road. This event provides a safe and environmentally responsible way to get rid of materials that should not go in regular trash.

According to Durham County, the event is limited to residents with a 2025-2026 solid waste decal. Residents without a decal will not be able to drop off items. Those who misplaced the insert in their property tax bill or need a replacement can contact the Tax Office at 919-560-0300.

Accepted items at the Durham County hazardous household waste event include aerosol cans, batteries, pool chlorine, and similar household chemicals. Items not accepted include old fireworks, ammunition, and unlabeled containers.
