District 6 Councilmember Ric Galvan facilitated the distribution of more than 300 turkeys to local families and senior citizens in the lead-up to Thanksgiving. The effort, organized by Galvan’s office in collaboration with various community organizations, provided holiday meals to residents within the district. According to the City of San Antonio, the initiative will reach 336 families and seniors.

The councilmember’s office identified Title I schools as a key distribution point to assist 150 students and their families. Title I schools are designated based on high percentages of children from low-income households. The initiative included a targeted approach to reach working families during the holiday season. A reporting error in the initiative’s documentation, which incorrectly recorded the number of families supported in one instance, has since been corrected.

An additional 150 turkeys were distributed to seniors through a collaboration between the Gonzaba Foundation and Methodist Healthcare System, with disbursements taking place at three senior centers within the district: Alicia Treviño, Bethel, and the Darner Senior Center. These centers provide meals, resources, and social opportunities for older adults in the community.

Councilmember Galvan acknowledged the contributions of those involved in the project. He stated, "Thanksgiving is about family, gratitude, and community. Our goal is to make sure every family and senior in District 6 can celebrate around the table without worrying about where their meal will come from." Information on this and similar community events is available on the City of San Antonio and local councilmembers’ websites.
