In a gesture of recognition and respect, Douglas County is shining a symbolic green light on its veterans. From Nov. 4 through Veterans Day on Nov. 11, the county is participating in Operation Green Light, an event sparked by the National Association of Counties (NACo). Buildings across the county, including the Philip S. Miller Building, Wilcox Street Building, Justice Center, and a county facility in Meridian, will radiate in green as a visual salute to the 27,000 veterans who call Douglas County home.

Operation Green Light isn't just for public buildings. Residents, businesses, and organizations in the area are joining the cause, swapping out their standard bulbs for green ones. A green glow from homes and storefronts is expected to spread, signaling support for those who've served. "We are a county that stands behind and honors the service and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes,” said Commissioner George Teal, as per Douglas County. The initiative also stands to highlight the resources available to veterans at all levels of government, addressing challenges unique to those who've served.

The county's commitment extends beyond just one week of green lights. A Veterans Day ceremony is set for Nov. 8, inviting public attendance at the Veterans Monument Plaza. Their ongoing support for veterans is anchored by the Douglas County Veterans Service Office, which offers an array of services from benefits assistance to mental health resources.
