Dunwoody is preparing to open its new boardwalk and restored wetlands area at the Dunwoody Nature Center, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday next week.
According to the City of Dunwoody website, the project, years in the making, includes expanded and elevated pathways that are ADA-accessible and connect to nearby playgrounds. Educational features such as outdoor classrooms and observation decks have also been added to support environmental learning and public engagement.
Work along Wildcat Creek included stabilizing streambanks with rocks, installing a log vane to guide water flow, and removing invasive species to restore native wetland vegetation. The new boardwalk sits above the 100-year floodplain, improving both environmental connectivity and accessibility.
The $1.72 million project was funded through a $600,000 EPD 319(h) Grant and the City’s Stormwater Reserve, completing a significant environmental enhancement for the community.
