Customs and Border Protection officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry in Texas took into custody a man wanted on charges of sexual battery. Francisco Javier Balderas Gonzalez, a 51-year-old Mexican citizen, was detained following a routine inspection that led to a secondary check, where officers confirmed his identity against an outstanding felony warrant, as reported by the Customs and Border Protection.
According to the Customs and Border Protection press release, the arrest happened on Nov. 16 at the Camino Real Bridge. When Balderas Gonzalez was referred for further scrutiny, the subsequent biometric verification matched him to a warrant issued by the Custer County Sheriff's Office in Arapaho, Oklahoma. The arrest underscores Customs and Border Protection vigilance and the effectiveness of the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), a tool shared among law enforcement to track outstanding warrants and criminal histories.
"CBP recognizes the significance of bringing those charged with serious sex crimes to justice," Port Director Pete Beattie of Eagle Pass Port of Entry said in the statement. The agency's focused efforts aim to give "the victim and their family comfort, knowing the alleged attacker is now in custody," as stated by the Customs and Border Protection.
