An early morning blaze wrought significant havoc on an Oak Brook home Tuesday when a garage fire rapidly spread, consuming the structure and leaving residents with a gutted domicile, as reported by the Daily Herald. The conflagration ignited within the confines of a garage attached to a ranch-style residence, situated on the 500 block of Abbeywood Court, and firefighters from the Oak Brook Fire Department were summoned at about 2:20 a.m.
The smoldering chaos was quelled by the valiant efforts of fire crews employing two ladder trucks, each equipped with powerful aerial water cannons to stifle the ravenous flames, a battle waged for approximately two hours and twenty minutes; unfortunately, their endeavors, though successful, left the home uninhabitable and the cause of the fire remains shrouded in mystery, still under the scrutiny of investigation.
Tragedy was mercifully averted as no injuries have been reported, with the residents having been roused by active smoke alarms, a testament to the literal lifesaving value of such devices, according to the CBS News Chicago report. The fire, which saw parts of the roof collapse into the garage before leaping to the house, was finally reined in by fire crews, yet the house suffered extensive smoke damage, blotting every room with soot and ash.
