East Maui residents in Hāna are getting ready for a recycling overhaul. On December 5 and 6, the County of Maui Department of Environmental Management's Environmental Protection & Sustainability Division will host a metals and electronics recycling event. According to County of Maui officials, locals can drop off a range of items from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Hāna Recycling Center across from the Hāna Landfill on Waikoloa Road.
The list of acceptable items for the recycling event includes e-waste like computers, televisions, and printers; large appliances such as refrigerators and stoves, as well as automobile batteries, tires, and propane tanks. Hammerhead Metals and Hāna Landfill staff will be present to assist residents with unloading their recyclable goods from their vehicles; however, all small machines must be drained of all liquids before drop-off, and no commercial items will be accepted.
Those seeking more information on the event, including drop-offs and specific recycling queries, are provided multiple contact points. The Abandoned Vehicles office can be reached at (808) 270-6102 for broad details on the county’s recycling efforts. Hammerhead Metals can be contacted at (808) 280-8844 for inquiries about large-metal recycling, while electronics recycling questions can be directed to E-Cycling Maui at (808) 280-6460. Additionally, reports for abandoned vehicles can be relayed to the nonemergency number of the Maui Police Department.
Maui residents can note the next scheduled recycling event, set for March 6 and 7, 2026.
