Thirty-seven newly minted POST-certified deputies are stepping into their new roles after a formal graduation ceremony held by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, reports the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. The grand event took place at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, marking the culmination of these individuals' 23 weeks of diligent training and their commitment to upholding public safety.
Sheriff Joseph Roybal, who oversaw the training academy's eighth class since his tenure began in 2023, administered the Oath of Office with a commendation for their dedication, "Our County Security Officers carry a significant responsibility within our mission of public safety," he stated through El Paso County Sheriff's Office, recognizing the two newly sworn-in County Security personnel and their role in safeguarding public spaces, the ceremony not just a formality, it's an ushering in of a distinct set of responsibilities vital to the fabric of community safety. Of the 37 deputies, a majority will serve El Paso County, while the remainder will join the Teller, Lake, Costilla, and Las Animas County Sheriff's Offices, respectively.
The trainees of the Regional Training Academy Class 25-2 embarked on their journey on June 16, 2025, and emerged ready to bear the badge's weight—a symbol of their readiness to defend constitutional rights and embody the legacy left by previous peace officers. "Their discipline, commitment, and passion for service were evident throughout the 23-week academy," Sheriff Roybal conveyed pride in the graduating class and gratitude towards fellow sheriffs for entrusting their recruits to the academy.
"Today, each of you accepted the weight of the badge. It is more than a symbol—it is a promise. A promise to defend the constitutional rights of every person you encounter, to stand firm in moments of uncertainty, and to respond with calm, courage, and compassion when others need help," Sheriff Roybal acclaimed during the ceremony, encapsulating the immense duty now bestowed upon these graduating deputies, his address not merely congratulatory but a reminder of the profound promise each of them has made to their community.
