The event, which also involved county officials and community members, took place to unveil the Pikes Peak Honor Bell, a solemn tribute to those who served in the military and now reside in the Pikes Peak region, a community with a strong veteran population estimated at around 95,000.
Notable county figures participated in the ceremony, including Undersheriff Jeff Kramer and Commissioner Bill Wysong, among others, all of whom share a bond sealed by their past service in the U.S. Armed Forces. At the ceremony, each took turns ringing the bell in reverence to fellow service members who have passed on, having made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation's liberty and its citizens. "Tolling this bell is an extraordinary honor,” Undersheriff Kramer told the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, “When we think of the generations of veterans who have defended our nation—and those who now continue their service within our Office—we are reminded of the values they embody: courage, sacrifice, and devotion to others."
The Honor Bell Foundation, a nonprofit focused on ensuring veterans receive the recognition they deserve, supported this event to mark the introduction of the Pikes Peak Honor Bell, whose toll is not merely a sound but an echo of the community's enduring veneration for its veterans. This new bell will toll at various locations, including the Pikes Peak National Cemetery and the U.S. Air Force Academy Cemetery, serving as a resonant reminder of the community's gratitude and respect for those who served.
