A tragic incident unfolded on a Tampa road over the weekend when a vehicle struck and killed a 70-year-old bicyclist. According to official reports, the accident occurred on the morning of Sunday, on E. Fowler Ave, just west of N. 30th St.
The Tampa Police Department stated that the collision happened just after 9:20 am when the elderly man was crossing E. Fowler Ave from south to north, in an area not designated for pedestrian crossing, the vehicle involved was a 2016 Hyundai, its driver was performing a lane change at the moment of the incident, resulting in the devastating clash. Traffic was disrupted for hours following the accident as investigations took place, with vehicles being rerouted from the scene to facilitate thorough analysis and documentation by law enforcement.
Officers who responded to the scene applied emergency life-saving procedures, but despite their efforts, the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the location of the accident. The driver of the Hyundai stopped immediately and cooperated with the police, who later determined that neither speed nor impairment appeared to be contributing factors to the tragedy, and as such, no charges have been filed against her.
