An Elyria man, Andrew Davison, has been sentenced to a substantial prison term after a string of violent offenses, according to the Elyria Police Department. Davison's litany of crimes culminated in a verdict handed down on multiple counts of felonious assault against law enforcement officers. As announced in a social media post by the Elyria Police Department, he will serve a 39-44 year sentence as adjudicated by Judge Giovanna Bremke.
Previously, on June 12, Davison was already in the throes of the legal system, receiving a 10-15 year sentence for attempted murder after a daylight stabbing incident. The violent streak continued remorselessly as Davison, facing the consequences of his previous actions, lashed out in Judge Christopher Rothgery’s courtroom, resulting in the injuries of Sgt. Michael Walker and two Lorain County Sheriff Deputies.
Sgt. Walker, heralded for his quick response, which prevented further harm, is on the path to recovery and is anticipated to resume duties with the Elyria Police Department soon. In response to the sentencing, James Welsh, Chief of Elyria Police, commended the actions of Sgt. Walker and expressed his gratitude towards Lorain County Prosecutor's Office Tony Cillo, who took charge of the case against Davison. "Davison is a career criminal and a danger to the community," Welsh stated in the post through the Elyria Police Department, underscoring that Davison has never taken responsibility for his criminal behavior.
The recent sentences will run consecutively with Davison's prior convictions, which include an 8-12 year term for drug trafficking in addition to the attempted murder sentence. With Davison behind bars, Chief Welsh asserts that "Our community is safer... and justice was served." This proclamation, maintaining the safety of the public at the forefront, echoes the sentiment of the Elyria Police Department's continued effort to combat crime and ensure accountability in their jurisdiction.
