As the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) wraps up its festive fall celebrations, Interim Superintendent Martha Aguirre issued a message highlighting recent accomplishments within the district and shared updates on ongoing initiatives. Aguirre, who has been steering the district's operations amid their superintendent search, shed light on various student achievements, as well as staff opportunities, marking a time of vibrant activity in EPISD.

Community members were reminded that their feedback on the superintendent search is valued, with Aguirre stating, "Your feedback is helping the Board of Trustees define the leadership qualities in the next superintendent," as per El Paso ISD. Participation in the search process was encouraged through an online portal open until November 2, underscoring the district's commitment to stakeholder engagement in decision-making.

Highlighting the athletic prowess within the district, twelve EPISD athletes were acknowledged by Aguirre for their participation in the UIL Cross Country State Championships held in Round Rock, Texas. "We want wish luck to the 12 athletes who will represent EPISD at Round Rock, Texas this weekend," said Aguirre, as obtained by El Paso ISD, cheering on competitors from across several high schools, including Austin, El Paso, Coronado, and Franklin.

In a testament to resilience, Burges High School senior Jesus Jasso received special recognition for his perseverance in the face of hearing loss. Jasso is slated to represent the United States in the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo, which Aguirre described as a shining example of courage, determination, and Mustang pride. This personal achievement represents a broader narrative of overcoming adversity that resonates across the EPISD community.

Aguirre also announced a hiring initiative for the Special Education Department, eager to fill roles with dedicated individuals. A job fair is scheduled for November 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Professional Development Center (6500 Boeing Drive). The district seeks to attract passionate educators to support students with diverse learning needs, a priority for the EPISD.
