SoHo's landscape of retail has a vibrant new addition, where flowers are art and art is long-lasting. Opening its doors on 172 Prince Street, Flower Shop has emerged from the ephemeral realms of pop-up events to become a mainstay in the area, inviting patrons to indulge in a unique shopping experience. According to ABC7 New York, no watering is necessary for these blooms—crafted from felt and other soft materials, these artistic creations have already garnered global interest, with requests pouring in from as far as Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong.
Making a splash last year with two pop-up events, co-founders CJ and Pamela Hendry found their concept so well-received that one venue had to be shut down by police due to overcrowding, as people clamored to purchase the plush flowers by the armful. The Hendry sisters have now given these sought-after items a permanent place where fans can select and arrange them at will, each flower priced at $10. "It's special to give them and receive them and it brightens your day and sometimes. We need that," Pamela Hendry told ABC7 New York.
StupidDOPE highlights CJ Hendry's artistic journey, which spans over a decade of disruptive installations and playful interpretations of luxury. Embodying this spirit, her Flower Shop redefines the ritual of flower gifting through a lens of humor and accessibility. In creating a permanent space for her plush floral artworks, Hendry extends the whimsical and interactive qualities of her temporary spectacles into a year-round experience for New Yorkers and visitors alike.
Far from a conventional flower store, Flower Shop provides art that can be touched, felt, and even "wrapped" as gifts without wilting—an innovative take on an otherwise commonplace item. Open seven days a week, the store maintains a variety of plush flowers, ensuring a constant stream of "freshness" despite the inherent durability of the products. "These flowers never die, which makes them funny, a little cheeky, and—hopefully—the most fun gift you’ll ever give," CJ Hendry explained as quoted by StupidDOPE. With a humorous twist on tradition, Hendry offers a whimsical alternative to more ephemeral gifts, particularly as the holiday season approaches. Customers no longer have to worry about the seasonal rush, as these plush creations are always in full bloom and in stock.
